England Red Roses’ Sadia Kabeya Teams Up with Gilbert to Create a Satin-lined Scrum Cap

Protective hairstyles are one thing, but imagine headgear also playe a role in hair maintenance? While typical Rugby headguards cause friction and hair breakage, England Red Roses’ player Sadia Kabeya decided she wanted something different.

The star flanker teamed up with Gilbert to develop and design a satin-lined scrum cap. Available in black and in three sizes—small, medium and large—the headguard’s satin inner layer was created to replicate satin headwear that many Black people use to protect their hair, like durags or headties.

“This design is about visibility and representation,” she shared with Gilbert. “By creating a product that acknowledges the needs of Black women in rugby, we’re sending a message that the game is for everyone. It’s a piece of kit with the potential to change not just how players feel on the pitch, but how they see themselves within the sport. The Satin Air Headguard is a symbol that everyone has a place in rugby.”
