The 2025 WNBA Teams as Astrological Signs
The very first WNBA game took place on the afternoon of June 21, 1997 in Los Angeles, ultimately making the league a Cancer. This water sign is known for their ability to connect others, their tenacity and being imaginative, which were exactly the traits required to form an iconic league that has sustained itself until now. 28 years, 13 teams and five incoming franchises later and its players are committed to pushing the future and welfare of it forward.
Each year, and between trades and acquisitions, the teams in the W develop their own personalities and collective style of play that define who they are. And, yes, we know there are more clubs than signs, but we’ve gauged the aura of each one and matched it up to a respective astrological sign based on the team’s players and what we’ve see on the court this season.
Capricorn:
Las Vegas Aces
Las Vegas Aces, the dynasty franchise that you are. Home to four-time MVP award recipient A’ja Wilson, and a team that continues to make record-breaking league history—their most recent feat was making 22 three‑pointers in a single game (yes, you read that right) against the LA Sparks on September 11th. It takes a goat to set the standard that others must live up to. The Las Vegas Aces are defined by its ambition—that back-to-back championship run was truly legendary—and like the herd that they are, they never back down from a challenge.
Aquarius:
New York Liberty
When the league was founded, the New York Liberty were one of the first eight teams. From the W’s inception, they were born leaders. This air sign is known for being a visionary and leading the charge with innovation, and what is more innovative than what the franchise has done to build the culture that surrounds the team? From forming partnerships with brands like NYX, Fenty Beauty, Off‑White and Essie to elevating Ellie the Elephant from mere mascot to international superstar, the Liberty are a team that is forward-thinking personified.
Pisces: Atlanta Dream
The camaraderie between Atlanta Dream players—especially with their rook, Te-Hina Paopao—embody the spirit of a Pisces: playful, adaptable and, like a good friend, always there to make things happen — and we def see this through their on-court play. With players like Rhyne Howard, who graduated with a major in Digital Media and Design, and Naz Hilmon, who has nurtured her interest in photography, it’s giving peak Pisces creativity vibes. Off the court, the Atlanta Dream, like the water sign, are a compassionate franchise ensuring to give back through their numerous community impact programs.
Taurus: Dallas Wings
If it’s one thing the Dallas Wings are gonna do, it’s throw a fit. With each tunnel walk, we get to see the breadth of each player’s personal style, and that’s exactly what to expect from the Venusian Earth sign. One of the most well-known characteristics of a Taurus is their ability to stay grounded, even when things get chaotic. This is such an important tenet to possess when the game gets intense, but everyone’s favourite rookie, Paige Bueckers, is noted for exercising an immense amount of poise, which translates to how effectively her and her teammates play while on the court.
Aries: Phoenix Mercury
Aries. Love. Winning. And is that not the desire that has propelled this team to the 2025 WNBA Playoff Finals? Phoenix Mercury’s Big Three—Kahleah Copper, Satou Sabally and goat Alyssa Thomas, who ironically happens to be an Aries—have ignited the spirit of the franchise and stoked the momentum of its X-Factor fans with their energetic style of play. We’d say that’s pretty on-brand for the sign. With game one of the finals scheduled for later on today, we can expect to see an increased level of exciting plays that only an Aries-inspired team can deliver.
Gemini:
Chicago Sky &
Indiana Fever
The rivalry between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever is no secret, and that’s why they’ve been matched as the dual-faced air sign, Gemini. With different personalities and playing styles that define the two, it’s safe to say these twins are very, very fraternal. This just means that anyone that’s had the opportunity to see them play can expect a game full of suspense and surprise, elements that is not unfamiliar to Geminis.
Cancer:
Connecticut Sun
Cancers are a bit of a slow burn, but once that wick gets going, you’re in for a treat. That’s how this season went for the Connecticut Sun. Though they always brought that dawg mentality to the court, it took some time for them to find their consistent rhythm. Once they did, the team closed out the season on a really high note, which laid the groundwork for the potential of the team’s gameplay next year. Like Cancers, this is a team that plays with so much heart, and we especially love seeing how that came out through rooks like Saniya Rivers and Aneesah Morrow.
Leo:
Golden State Valkyries
Leos know how to make an entrance and the Golden State Valkyries are no exception. Imagine a franchise’s first year in the league and they:
break the league record for most wins by an expansion team
become the first expansion team to make the playoffs in their debut season and
sell out every. single. home game, among their other many accomplishments.
In true trendsetter fashion, they’ve raised the bar for incoming franchises and did it like no other team has done it before. It’s giving Leo behaviour.
Virgo: Minnesota Lynx
Like Virgos, the Minnesota Lynx strive for perfection. Winning 34 games this season and only losing 10, they’re a team that works hards towards refining their game so that each time they step onto the court, it’s nothing by flawless production. An iconic franchise, the Lynx have four WNBA championships under their belt, but made six Finals appears between 2011-2017. A stacked team with players who rank high on the stat sheets, just like the Earth sign, they are diligent in pursuing their goals and aim high to achieve success.
Libra: LA Sparks
Libra is ruled by Venus, a planet known for its appreciation of beauty, love, art and aesthetics, so, of course, this sign had to be paired with the LA Sparks. Home to some of the baddest in the league—and the franchise that the OG baddie and baller, Lisa Leslie, played for during the entirety of her career—the Sparks play with a flair that only being out on the west coast can produce. We love how this team hoops and the ever-present sense of suspense they bring that always keeps us entertained down to the (literal) last second.
Scorpio: Seattle Storm
The intensity that the Seattle Storm play with is one of one. When Skylar Diggins hits that court, we already know her level of gameplay ups the momentum of her teammates and the opposing team. When a Scorpio feels violated, they’re gonna make sure they get their lickback, and that’s exactly what they did in one of the the biggest upsets of the season. On June 11th, they blew the Minnesota Lynx’s winning streak with a 94-84 at-home victory and added some of that Scorpio razzle dazzle as the cherry on top.
Sagittarius:
Washington Mystics
This year the Washington Mystics saw rookie duo Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron come into the franchise, energizing the team and Mystics fan with their mature level of play. This was just a display of their their high level of adaptability as they transitioned from collegiate level basketball to the professional league, a known quality of the mutable sign. Sagittarians are known for being spirited and passionate without taking themselves too seriously, and we get the same sense of play when we see the Mystics on the court: they’re fun to watch, the momentum is maintained and we can tell the players always have a good time.
With the new season, two new franchises and the upcoming expansion draft on the way for 2026, these teams may look totally different, literally and astrologically. Until then, we’ll keep our eyes on the constellations and on the court to see what the universe has in store.
