The Legacy of Shenae “Curry” Craig
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, Shenae Craig. On February 13th, surrounded by her family, she transitioned, but leaves behind an incredible and inspiring legacy.
Shenae's love for women’s sports and supporting its athletes was undeniable and unshakable. She was a huge fan of the New Your Liberty and cheered loudly for them at any chance she got. She was inspired by who these women were while they were on the court and the breadth of their lives, interests and passions when they were off the court. When Unrivaled Basketball came around and she got to learn even more about her favourite players, she was inspired by the innovation of the league and its possibilities.
As a multifaceted creative, her work didn’t stop at supporting women athletes and their respective sports. She mobilized through We Grew Here NYC canvassing and helping her community access political education and resources.
Her spirit to be an agent of change will continue to live on at DCMB.
A Message from Don’t Call Me Baby Co-Founder, Sharine Taylor
There will never be anyone like Shenae in this lifetime or the next. Since her transition and over the past few weeks, people who have known her in different capacities, wherever they are in the world, have expressed the same sentiment: how much she pushed and inspired them, how firm she was in her beliefs and how sure she was of herself. She encouraged us to elevate the expectations we have of ourselves. With every venture or side quest she went on, she did the same. She set a standard and it's one we should strive towards each day.
No amount of eulogizing will ever capture the magnitude of who Shenae was, what she did and what she meant to the people whose lives she was part of and impacted.
I will live my life with all the things she’s spoken into me and all the things she’s taught me directly and indirectly.
Shenae’s legacy will continue to live on in so many of us forever.
